Rules
Basic Rules
The South African Open is played with the Competition Rules Pack with the following changes :
- The teams Slann, Underworld and Chaos Pact are allowed.
- Human catchers are 60k.
- Halfling Treemen gain the Timber skill.
- Chaos Pact can have a lineman orc.
- Goblin team can have the Doom diver and the Ooligan.
- A Head Coach can ‘Argue the Call’ on a sending off.
We play according to the resurrection style of play. All coaches start each game with the same roster and skills they registered before the tournament.
Each coach must build their team with a treasury consisting of 1,100,000 gold pieces. Team rosters must consist of at least 11 players as per the normal rules.
Team creation
You have 1,100,000 GP to spend on creating your team, with which you can buy players, Rerolls, Fan Factor, Assistant Coaches, Cheerleaders and an Apothecary, subject to the normal limits and availability for the team in question.
In addition, All tier 3 teams can buy 0-2 Star Players but must have at least 11 regular players before doing so. Goblins may buy 0-3 bribes and Halflings may buy 0-1 master chef. If opposing teams have the same Star Players, both may play.
You cannot use 'leftover money' to buy things during the tournament and your team will not get inducements if its Team Value is lower than that of the opponent, so there's no point in not spending all your money.
Roster
All coaches need to bring their own printed rosters for the event. One roster must be available to show your opponent during games. Your first opponent will check your roster to make sure it is legal.
Skills
All skills will be chosen before the tournament and will stay the same for all matches throughout the tournament.
See the tier chart below for information on how many and which type of skills your selected team can choose.
Skill stacking or stat upgrades are not allowed. All skills MUST be noted on the team roster before the tournament starts.
Tier 1
4 normal skills
Wood Elf, Undead, Lizardmen, Skaven, Dwarf, Chaos Dwarf, Orcs, Dark Elf, Norse, Amazon
Tier 2
4 normal skills, 1 double skill
Chaos, Chaos Pact, Human, Khemri, Slann, Necromantic, High Elf, Elf, Nurgle
Tier 3
5 normal skills, 1 double skills
Underworld, Halfling, Goblin, Ogre, Vampire
Tournament format
The tournament consist of six rounds. The individual match-ups are decided randomly in the first round and by Swiss-draw thereafter.
Scoring:
Win – 3 points
Draw – 1 point
Loss – 0 points
Tiebreaker – Net TD, then Net Cas
Paint and miniatures
All teams are expected to meet the minimum painted guidelines. They must have 3 colors on them and have had some attempt at making them appear finished. The miniatures don't have to be original GW-minis. However the miniatures must be representative for the roster's race and players (ie a Norse thrower must look like a Norse thrower) and be easily recognizable from other positionals.
We encourage you to use the following color coded bases:
Grey/none: Lineman
Red: Blitzer
Green: Blocker
White: Thrower
Yellow: Catcher, Runner
NAF Tournament Info
This is a NAF approved tournament. If you wish to receive the limited edition NAF gift and have your tournament progress tracked, We will be accepting registration for the cost of $5/year. More information can be found at TheNAF.net
Illegal Procedure
In the spirit of good sportsmanship, Illegal Procedures will not be called
Timing
The game round time limit WILL be strictly enforced. You will receive ‘Time Remaining’ updates from the Tournament Organizer to help you stay on pace.
The 4 Minute turn rule will not be used unless the Tournament organizer feels your game is in danger of not completing in the two hour time limit. He may insist on a timer being used and enforcing the 4 minute turn rule.
Sportsmanship
We are here for the fun of the game. Sportsmanship is not encouraged from the coaches it is required! Fouling 16 turns in a row and running up the score is not poor sportsmanship, but gloating and ridiculing your opponent while doing so is.
